Set within the ruins of a 10th-century motte-and-bailey site, Black Mountain Escapes is home to just two cottages, thoughtfully positioned for privacy so each feels entirely your own. Both have been carefully restored to retain their original character, offering a stay that feels relaxed, comfortable, and quietly special.
Exposed beams, stone floors and timeworn details run throughout, sitting alongside calm, inviting interiors with antiques and natural materials. There’s a sense here of stepping into a different pace of life, where objects have a story of their own, and nothing feels overly new or hurried.
Mornings begin slowly, with birdsong and coffee taken without rush. Days unfold in the countryside, whether walking with your dog or spending time with your horse, before returning as evening draws in. Two Cottages, Two Distinct Stays
Black Mountain Escapes is home to two one-bedroom cottages, Gablebach and Y Golchdy, each offering a private escape for two.
Both have been thoughtfully restored to retain their character, with original features such as exposed beams, stone floors and thick walls running throughout. Antique furniture and vintage pieces have been carefully chosen to sit comfortably within the space, creating interiors that feel layered, lived-in and true to their setting.
Each cottage has its own layout and sense of space, with well-equipped kitchens, relaxed living areas and everything needed for an easy stay. Gablebach features an outdoor bath, while Y Golchdy offers a private hot tub - both positioned to take in the surrounding views.
Dogs are welcome, and for those travelling with horses, on-site stabling and pasture make it possible to bring them with you - a rare feature for a stay of this kind.

About Us
Black Mountain Escapes is run by Ruth and Eirian, a Welsh couple with strong ties to the area. Eirian was born in nearby Llangadog, while Ruth is originally from Cardiff.
Since 2018, they have carefully restored the buildings on their smallholding, preserving their character while creating spaces that feel welcoming and easy to stay in.
The cottages sit within the remains of Castell Meurig, a former motte-and-bailey castle overlooking the Tywi Valley. Now softened into the landscape, it remains a quiet presence - a subtle imprint of the site’s long history.
Today, it is a place they are proud to share, offering guests a chance to experience the landscape, history and slower pace of this part of West Wales.

What boutique touches are included in your stay?
Each stay includes a selection of thoughtful details to make your time here feel that little bit more special, including luxury bathrobes, spa slippers, fresh flowers, chocolates by the bedside and a freshly baked cake on arrival.
Are the cottages dog-friendly?
Yes, we will accept one dog (by arrangement) aged 1+ in both cottages at £50 per stay. The surrounding countryside offers plenty of space for walks, making it an ideal setting to bring them along.
Do you offer facilities for horses?
Yes, on-site stabling and pasture are available for guests travelling with horses. Please get in touch ahead of your stay to arrange this.
Where is the nearest pub or shop?
Both cottages are within walking distance to Llangadog village which has three pubs, a local shop, newsagent and butchers. Alternatively, the nearby market towns of Llandeilo and Llandover are both around five miles away and offer a wider selection of independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants.
What is the minimum stay?
We offer two-night bookings (or longer) from Mondays and Wednesdays, and two-night bookings (or longer) on Fridays and Saturdays.

Rates are from £180 per night. A 25% non-refundable deposit is payable on booking with the balance due 14 days ahead of arrival. If you have to cancel, it may be possible to change your dates so that you don't lose your deposit.
