A Day Among the Gardens of Aberglasney
Discover one of Wales’ finest gardens, home to the UK’s only fully restored Elizabethan Cloister Garden and beautiful seasonal displays.
Just a short drive from Black Mountain Escapes lies one of Wales’ most treasured gardens. Aberglasney is a place that rewards slow exploration, where every winding path reveals something new, from colourful borders and ancient yew trees to peaceful woodland and beautifully restored historic gardens.
At the heart of the estate is the remarkable Elizabethan Cloister Garden, the only fully restored example of its kind in the United Kingdom. Beyond it, more than ten acres of gardens unfold, each with its own character, from the productive Kitchen Garden to the exotic Ninfarium, where tropical plants flourish beneath a striking glass roof built within the restored mansion.
What we love most about Aberglasney is that it never feels rushed. The gardens change with the seasons, meaning every visit offers something a little different. Spring brings drifts of bulbs and blossom, summer bursts with colour, while autumn paints the landscape in warm golds and rich reds. Even in winter, the structure and tranquillity of the gardens make for a wonderfully peaceful walk.
After exploring, take time to enjoy lunch or homemade cake in the tearoom overlooking the Pool Garden. It’s exactly the sort of place where an hour quietly disappears without you noticing.
If you’re looking for a relaxing day away from the crowds, Aberglasney is one of those places that perfectly captures the slower pace of life we love here beneath the Black Mountain. Bring your camera, take your time and simply enjoy wandering.
Bringing your dog? Aberglasney welcomes dogs every Thursday during its popular Doggy Days, giving you the chance to explore one of Wales’ finest gardens together at no extra charge. For the latest dates, visitor guidance and site rules, visit the Doggy Days page before you travel.
