Luxury boutique cottage in Carmarthenshire, West Wales
Gablebach
Facing Llangadog village green and overlooking the pretty Tywi river, Gablebach is a quintessential country cottage, full of character and retaining an old-world charm. The holiday cottage is completely private, with its own patio, far-reaching views across the Tywi valley and ample parking for visitors.
Parts of the building date back to the 17th century and Gablebach can be found on the 1861 census records. We believe that the original cottage was nearby and demolished in the 1970s, but the remaining stables and hayloft form the basis of the Gablebach you can stay in today. Originally built with stone, the stable was renovated with brick in Victorian times and converted in 1987 into a groom’s flat, although it was mostly uninhabited until its current renovation in 2023.
The vintage decor is inspired by traditional Welsh cottages and accentuated with modern touches. Each piece of furniture is antique, from the 1920s’ French bed to the small Welsh dresser which belonged to Ruth’s grandmother, and all have been personally chosen to provide a luxurious holiday break in Carmarthenshire.
Cottage highlights include the open-plan lounge with log burner, a hand-built kitchen with an Aga range cooker, as well as a modern convection hob for speed when you want to rustle up a light bite quickly, and individually sourced accessories. The main bedroom is exquisitely decorated, with reclaimed floorboards, antique furniture and a bookcase stacked with holiday reads. The second bedroom also has an antique bed dating back to c.1880 and a vintage gold power shower. Bijou and just as tasteful as the master bedroom, it’s an ideal bedroom for a child or to use as a dressing room.
The spacious en-suite has the extravagant feel of a 1920s’ powder room, with an antique vanity unit, a beautiful copper slipper bath and a high-level WC with a throne seat! Here you will find fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers for you to use during your stay. A discreet window means you can also relax in the bath at the end of the day with a glass of wine, watching the stars!
