If your idea of romance is swapping busy roads for winding country lanes, cosy village pubs, star-filled skies and peaceful mornings beside a river, then the beautiful Towy Valley is waiting for you.

Nestled between the charming market towns of Llandeilo and Llandovery, Black Mountain Escapes offers a slower kind of luxury. Whether you choose the secluded charm of Gablebach Cottage, complete with its outdoor Bath House, or the cosy intimacy of The Old Laundry Room (Y Golchdy) with its private hot tub and Snug cabin bed, every stay begins with the same invitation — to slow down and reconnect.

Here’s how we’d spend the perfect romantic weekend.

Friday Evening

Leave the World Behind

As the roads become quieter and the Black Mountain skyline comes into view, everyday life begins to melt away.

After arriving at Black Mountain Escapes, unpack slowly before pouring your favourite drink and settling outside as the evening light softens across the valley.

Guests staying at Gablebach Cottage can wander across the road to the gentle waters of the River Sawdde. Spend a few quiet moments skimming stones together or simply listening to the river flowing past — one of life’s simplest pleasures.

If you’re staying at The Old Laundry Room, sink into the private hot tub while the mountains slowly disappear into the evening light.

Sometimes doing very little creates the very best memories.

Dinner at Y Castell

As dusk settles, take the short stroll into the heart of Llangadog and enjoy dinner at Y Castell.

A favourite with our guests, this welcoming village inn combines relaxed surroundings, excellent food and genuine Welsh hospitality.

Afterwards, wander hand-in-hand back through the quiet village before lighting the fire or stepping outside beneath the stars.

A Night Beneath Wales’ Dark Skies

One of the greatest luxuries you’ll discover here is the darkness.

Far away from city lights, the skies above the Towy Valley reveal thousands of stars on clear evenings.

Guests at The Old Laundry Room can enjoy the view from the warmth of the hot tub, while Gablebach’s outdoor Bath House offers an unforgettable way to end the day beneath an open canopy of stars.

Few places allow you to finish an evening quite like this.

Saturday Morning

Explore Beautiful Llandeilo

After a slow breakfast, make the short drive to the beautiful market town of Llandeilo.

Independent boutiques, art galleries, welcoming cafés and colourful Georgian buildings make it the perfect place to wander without an itinerary.

Browse antique shops, discover local Welsh makers and simply enjoy exploring together.

Brunch Worth Lingering Over

No romantic weekend is complete without an unhurried brunch.

Two of our favourites are Pitchfork & Provision, known for artisan coffee, freshly baked pastries and indulgent brunches, or Cellar 62, where Spanish tapas, small plates and excellent wines encourage you to stay just a little longer.

Weekends like these were never meant to be rushed.

Saturday Afternoon

Discover Dinefwr

Only a few minutes from Llandeilo lies one of Wales’ most beautiful hidden gems.

Spend the afternoon exploring the historic parkland, ancient woodland and magnificent house at Dinefwr.

Watch the famous White Park cattle grazing beneath centuries-old trees before following peaceful walks through landscapes that have inspired visitors for generations.

It’s a wonderful place to combine history, nature and time together.

Step into Medieval Wales

If history captures your imagination, your weekend can include an experience found nowhere else.

As custodians of the historic Castell Meurig, we’re delighted to offer guests the opportunity to arrange an escorted visit to this remarkable Norman motte-and-bailey castle.

Hidden among the trees beside Black Mountain Escapes, the earthworks date back almost 900 years and reveal a fascinating chapter of medieval Welsh history.

Standing on the ancient motte, you’ll enjoy sweeping views across the Towy Valley while discovering the stories of the castle, its strategic importance and the landscape that has changed remarkably little over the centuries.

Alternatively, take the short drive to Carreg Cennen Castle. Perched dramatically on a limestone crag, its spectacular ruins, breathtaking views and atmospheric cave make it one of Wales’ most romantic historic landmarks.

Saturday Evening

Date Night at the Movies

For something wonderfully different, head to Brynamman Public Hall Cinema.

Lovingly restored, this beautiful Victorian cinema still retains its original charm, complete with rich red velvet seating and an atmosphere that feels wonderfully nostalgic.

Watching a film here feels less like visiting a modern multiplex and more like stepping back in time together.

Afterwards, return to your cottage, pour a final glass of wine and enjoy one more evening beneath the stars.

Sunday Morning

One Last Slow Start

Wake naturally to birdsong rather than alarms.

Enjoy breakfast at your own pace before taking one final riverside stroll or simply sitting outside with a coffee while the mountains slowly wake around you.

If time allows before heading home, consider one last adventure:

  • Drive the spectacular Black Mountain Road.
  • Explore the independent shops and cafés of Llandovery.
  • Visit Carreg Cennen Castle.
  • Discover the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
  • Walk beside the legendary Llyn y Fan Fach.
  • Browse local farm shops and artisan producers throughout the Towy Valley.

Romance Lives in the Little Moments

The most memorable weekends aren’t always built around ticking attractions from a list.
They’re found in warm baths beneath star-filled skies.
In riverside walks without a destination.
In sharing dessert at a village pub.
In watching old films from velvet seats.
In coffee enjoyed slowly while the mountains wake around you.

That’s what awaits at Black Mountain Escapes.

Whether you’re celebrating an anniversary, planning a surprise escape or simply taking time away together, you’ll discover that some of the most romantic breaks in Wales are also the quietest.

Because here, luxury isn’t measured by schedules.
It’s measured by moments you’ll remember long after you’ve returned home.[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
